126EN Drivers *edit* by Ed for clarification
Jul 2nd, 2009, 6:36pm

I bought a set of use Horns a few months back, it came with stock 126 drivers, I ordered a set of 126EN and installed these, I was at first Blown away with the sound, and said so on other sites, but I believe I made a mistake using them in the Horns, they now sound lifeless and dull, and the spl`s are not as good as the stock driver either, I have to turn the volume a little more to get the loudness I use to get with the stock drivers. And these don`t play as loud as before.

I also don`t feel the dynamics are as good as before , nor the detail as good either. So some of you might want to think about that before you look into these drivers for the Horns. They may well work for other systems , but for some reason these don`t do well for my Horns. Greg

Thanks for the input, Greg. Different or "modified" is not always "better" as you have discovered! It might be, but not always.

Ed
ps....I have heard this before but you are the first to actually say it in public. You know you are making waves, right? Smiley

Designing a loudspeaker is very easy, building one that actually sounds good is much harder.

Ed, I`m sure there is plenty of room in your boat. Wink I can use these for a new project . I`ll come up and see ya in a few weeks to check out the bass unit for the horns and have you check out my horns to match the color of the bass unit. thanks Greg

Hey everyone,
I did not actually edit Greg's post but just the subject to catch everyone's eye.

The drivers Greg is talking about are NOT just En'd. They have other treatments applied. This is the "problem". I found the En treatment to make new drivers seem like old ones. Old ones did not benefit so much in my experiments. Also, I ONLY APPLIED THE En TREATMENT AND NOTHING ELSE.

When I said "I have heard others say similar things as he (Greg) was saying IT WAS WITH THE DRIVERS THAT HAD BEEN TREATED WITH OTHER "POTIONS" AS WELL AS En.

This is the problem that need to be clarified....I am NOT opposed to En and have suggested that people interested DO IT THEM SELF.

All the info needed is out there. And all the info suggests En alone does NOT alter efficiency or freq. response. This will not be the case if any other treatments are applied to the cone!

I love tweaks but there ain't no rule every one is a good thing! En is fine by itself..........just don't slather anything else on the cones!

Hope this helps clear up my position.

Ed
