Thanks for the update, Jeff. BTW, per my promise earlier, I'm pretty sure it was TinyCad that I used. Unfortunately, I can't find the original files. They were on a work computer and I brought them with me when I left, but can't find where I put them...and I have a lot of backup CDs and DVDs to go through.

Will report back if I find them, or if I get a chance to re-do them.

Carl
I recently had Dave custom build a pair of Parker Audio Troll speakers with Heil AMT tweeters ..... so my original pair of Troll Sigs are for sale.

These are some fine sounding loudspeakers. They pull a great disappearing act and throw a very holographic image. They use the superb Parker Audio 5.25" midbass driver and a very revealing and smooth ribbon tweeter. Efficiency is 92 db and a 4 ohm impedance, which makes them a great match for the Model SE84C+ or other Decware low wattage amplifier.

13" H x 6.75" W x 14.5" D

If you add a Hawthorne Augie open baffle subwoofer and a plate amp to that combo, it makes for a very musical full range system .....

The new Parker Audio Troll Signatures use a different cabinet and are a very good value at $ 700.00 ..... this pair is a steal at the asking price of $ 300.00 (stands not included).

Buyer pays shipping costs.
PayPal only ..... I will pick up the PP fee.

If they don't sell before October, I will be at the DecFest on October 1st and 2nd and will have them with me.

Thanks for looking,

Randy

Hey Gex, very glad you dropped by to keep us up with you and the family.
Great to hear all your hard work is getting spread out with the kids. You never know, you may have created some kids with a greater respect for audio.

It's been probably a year since I've built anything. In fact, I think the last two speaker builds I had were for other folks (I can post pics if you're interested). Been a real long time since I built anything for myself. There are several things I'm going to do, just finding the time is the hardest part.

Wasn't that your wife that got real sick a few years back? Turns out it was from the outgassing of MDF? If it was, how is she doing? Full recovery I hope?

Sorry, I don't do any "organized" social networking, just forums and get togethers. I just can't get into Facebook/Twitter.

Hopefully more of "the old guard" will chime in. Would be great to hear from everybody again.

Bob

Digital Sources Forum - How can I losslessly convert CBR to VBR?

The short answer is: you can't.

A VBR (variable bit rate) MP3 is by definition a lossy format (as are CBR MP3s as well). The advantage of VBR is the way that lossy compression is used to store information to keep the file size small. If you have, for example, a CBR MP3 file encoded at 192 kbps, conversion to VBR will encode some parts at 192, and some at lesser rates, losing information in the process. The idea behind VBR is that the algorithm is intended to lose information transparently from parts of the file from which you won't really notice that it's gone. Once you have an encoded MP3 file (CBR or VBR), you can never increase its quality. Re-encoding a 64 kbps file to 256 kbps does not make it sound any better. As far as lossless formats, you can make original recordings or CD rips to a lossless format like FLAC, but then the file sizes are huge, which obviously is no good for storage on a portable device.

The good news is that, for a portable device, the loss inherent to a decent MP3 encoder is not particularly relevant. When you consider the environments in which the portable device is used, typically the ambient noise floor is such that the quality loss is not noticeable.

FYI at the following the UltraBit Platinum website and click on 30 years of digital. If you find that interesting, I can send you a text only version sans commercial references. You may also find my think piece about polarity by clicking on the think piece about polarity at the same website.

If you'd help me sort out the mistakes, when and if they're corrected, you just might become an instant overnight music-lovers' folk hero. Or on the other hand be tarred and feathered and have your ears cut off and served up to you on a silver platter for your last meal as an audiophile guru. I invite you to visit so to share some of your music and mine on my custom built (by me) audio system on a CD player with a digital domain remote controlled polarity switch. My system is the best I've heard so far for discerning polarity which still must be done by ear. Those who hear CDs played over my system don't usually have much trouble hearing polarity. But whatever happens it will be just between the two of us, if that's what you prefer. It’ll be, attorney client privilege, or Perfect Polarity Pundit privilege, you decide.

Best regards.

George S.
The Cit. 5 is a fine amp. The Cit 2 is better, but as stated it's more complicated and more costly too.

Anybody who is at all serious about the early Stu Hegeman designed Citation components needs to heed the advice of Jim McShane, AKA Mr. Citation. For instance, Jim installs a choke in the O/P tube screen grid B+ supply that improves regulation and overall performance substantially.

Hello Everyone,

I purchased 3 of these about a year ago and I don't really have a need for the third one.

They have all the factory goodies that Steve put in the best Tori MK II's right before they were replaced by the MK 3's.

Tweet attenuation, dual inputs, ICE mod etc.

Comes with factory tubes, only 100 hours on the unit. Perfect condition in every way: sound, looks, care, etc.

This is an incredible amp but I just don't need 3 of them right now.

Thanks,

Parker
