Makom Torah is committed to creating a Jewish "dwelling place" rooted in Torah that accepts, honors, respects, and listens to all participants. The congregation is structured using egalitarian principals, that emphasize equality and participatory decision-making. The services, activities, and educational programs of Makom Torah involve the entire community and embrace diversity, a love of learning, responsibility, and creativity.
Before our congregation had a name, and before we were incorporated, we had our own Torah. An anonymous member of the planning group was so enthusiastic about the formation of the new congregation, that they purchased a Torah on eBay. The Torah was sent to a scribe in New York City for inspection where it was certified as kosher. The Torah was then shipped to us and unveiled for the first time in the picture above. The congregation will also be loaned an ark by a member of the community.
